Paruresis Recovery Workshops

For many people, attending a paruresis recovery workshop has been an excellent way to begin a recovery program, provide ongoing encouragement and support to an existing program, or to offer support to others recovering from paruresis and in the process make insights into one's own recovery process.

IPA offers workshops through the Shy Bladder Center (SBC).  The Shy Bladder Center is a nonprofit subsidiary organization of IPA established to provide individual treatment and psychosocial educational groups for people suffering from paruresis, or shy bladder syndrome.  The SBC also facilitates the establishment of support or self-help groups across the country for those suffering from this social anxiety disorder.  The SBC's web site is http://www.shybladder.org/.

A workshop is a good place to begin a treatment program or get a refresher if one's program needs a tune-up.  To make lasting progress, IPA recommends those seeking treatment combine a workshop with ongoing work in cognitive-behavioral therapy, support groups, and/or medication as your personal treatment professional recommends for your particular situation.  Following one or more of these three approaches on a long-term basis is critical  for a person with paruresis to make a full recovery.
